Art Function

It was a diffecult task trying to see what fucntion of art I believe I am attracted to the most. At first I really thought that the prints I had at my house reminded me of confusion and disorentation that would fall under Psycology. As I read more and more in this class I soon realized that the art I had prints of and enjoyed where actually relationship pieces to me.

Alex Grey "Kissing"
I always looked at this piece with some amazement but never really totally appricated his work on this one until the last few weeks. It was always my girlfriends favorite piece and now I due understand how it truely relates to us. Not only the energy it shows with the color and the way the two are embracing but also with the way we both look at the piece and seem to understand what it means to us and the place and time when we purchased a print of it.

Mark Henson "Nubial Bliss"
I still remmeber the day I say this print for the first time. Its by far my favorite print I've got (Signed and number by Mark himself). When I purchased this print in California last year I just knew that I loved it. The way the wheat field looks as if a breeze is blowing over it with the cloud cover forming a  purple and pinkish color sky like a storm just passed while the sun is setting. It just always looked amazing to me. Its a reminder of what my life was like traveling across the open country side with my closest friends some time ago, but also leans towards the feelings I have for my girlfriend Ariel who would always join us. This is another prime example of the apprication that this class has given me. It looks as if it would be the landscape that grabs me but it really is the the couple forming in the cloud cover that represents "Love" to me. Its a symbol of life, together with one other person in this beatiful world.

Alex Grey "Christ"
This print is one that I don't have but still has always grabbed my attention. This is another piece that Alex Grey has done. This piece symolizes the relationship that has always seemed to be a battle with me and religion. Alex Grey's work always grabs my attention through the lighting and color he seems to be able to put forth in his work. This piece just looks as if Christ is looking right through you and he can see who you are and what your beliefs may intail. The look just penitrats you I think. Growing up Catholic I've always had mixed emotions of what the church has tried to offer and the look he gives is almost as if he is questioning me. Its always been a unsettling piece but still grabs emotion from me when I see it.
